Though the descriptions of the pain and suffering felt by the main character (who suffers a similarly crippling accident) are convincing for obvious reasons, the book’s “shit weasels” - which literally make their way out of human bodies by getting crapped out - are the lowest type of gross-out horror. Dreamcatcher : King’s first novel released after the 1999 car accident that nearly killed him, Dreamcatcher is so body-obsessed as to be off-putting. Anyone who remembers the deadly levitating Coke machine would agree.Ħ2. Full of anger at himself and the eighties, The Tommyknockers is a white-hot mess. Writing with “his heart running at a hundred and thirty beats a minute and cotton swabs stuck up my nose to stem the coke-induced bleeding” (as he would later describe it), King filled his book with addicts and thinly veiled metaphors for what he was going through. The Tommyknockers : This tale of a Maine writer (you’ll be seeing a lot of these) who accidentally comes across a piece of alien metal in her backyard and finds herself compelled to dig up the flying saucer that it’s attached to was written at the height of King’s addiction troubles. The combination of the real (the title character, the battered women’s shelter she ends up with, her monster of a husband) with the supernatural (a magical painting that offers a gateway to a Greek myth-tinged world) feels less convincing here than it does in any other of King’s books.Ħ3. This one was the last and least of the bunch. Rose Madder : In the early nineties, King wrote a set of novels focused on abused women and the horrible men who beat and haunt and entrap them. In sum, a great read with a slow beginning, but well worth the effort.Every Stephen King Movie, Ranked From Worst to BestĦ4. ![]() Without his intervention, the final Dark Tower book would have been a lot different! The insomnia leads to some strange happenings that coincide with other unusual events in the spooky town of Derry (home of Pennywise the Clown from It), and the hero of the day is the elderly gent unable to sleep. As an insomnia myself, I was entertained by the many remedies to combat insomnia offered to the main character by well-meaning but mostly clueless friends and acquaintences. Here King touches on the unique problems of the elderly, and how they try to cope with all the unpleasant and unpleasant aspects of this time of life. This is another of King's novels which involves the Crimson King, for all you constant readers, and is worth slogging past the beginning to settle in for a lively story. However, the story certainly was worth the effort. The beginning is a bit slow, which is unusual for King, and it took a determined effort to get me going again. It was months before I started on it again. This is the first King novel I've ever started and lost interest in the beginning. ![]() Albania, Andorra, Angola, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Armenia, Aruba, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan Republic, Bahamas, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belgium, Belize, Benin, Bermuda, Bhutan, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Cape Verde Islands, Cayman Islands, China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Denmark, Djibouti, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Gabon Republic, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Gibraltar, Greece, Greenland, Grenada, Guinea-Bissau, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Kiribati, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Macedonia, Madagascar, Malawi, Malta, Mauritius, Mexico, Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Montserrat, Namibia, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Norway, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Croatia, Romania, Saint Helena, Saint Kitts-Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Seychelles, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, Turks and Caicos Islands, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City State, Wallis and Futuna, Western Samoa, Zambia ![]()
